The Print Truck
Mobile print studio built out of the back of a truck. I carve a commemorative block for the occasion and participants can ink and print their own edition to take home.
Great for outdoor events, festivals, brand activations, farm-to-table dinners, weddings, birthday parties, and more.
Requires: outdoor space for the truck and setup, access to level ground, and a load-in window before doors open.
Format: drop-in, self-paced. No carving, no instruction required — just pull a print.
Private Group Workshop
For small groups who actually want to learn the craft, not just watch it. We carve, ink, and print together in my studio, working from a block you help design and cut yourself. Everyone leaves with a finished, signed print — and a real sense of how reduction printmaking works.
Good for: birthdays, small celebrations, creative retreats, couples, friend groups.
Group size: Up to 10 people Length: 3–6 hours Includes: materials, instruction, a custom carved block, and take-home prints
Format: hands-on, collaborative, unhurried
Team Workshop
Built for teams of 20–60. Begin with a demonstration of how the press works and an intro to reduction printmaking. Participants split into rotating stations at the press, carving, inking, or working a secondary hands-on station (botanical printing, block-hammering). Everyone leaves with a print they made themselves.
Good for: corporate offsites, team-building days, staff retreats.
Group size: 20–60 people Length: full day
Includes: rotating stations, a short technique demonstration, hands-on printing for every participant, and a take-home print
Note: larger groups run better outdoors or in a large indoor space with room for 2–3 simultaneous stations

“I recently took James “Protest Poster” workshop at North Bay Letterpress Arts in Sebastopol, CA.
I was very excited to take the class because I am a big believer, and participant in peaceful, progressive, and organized protest.
In this intensive class I learned not only the historical impact of protest signs in the USA, but also how to produce a coherent and cohesive protest message without “shouting” which I had not realized I had been doing for years.
When we started actually making protest signs I learned the basics of block printing and produced a protest poster I was proud of and actually used the next day a NO KINGS rally.
I encourage you to take James class because one’s voice, and vote, is all you really have and the best catalyst for social change.”

“James is the best teacher and is funny and kind! You can tell he loves what he does and loves sharing it with others! He has a big heart, a lot of knowledge and a great eye for design. The workshop was well-thought out, fun, informative and I feel confident around a printing press now. I liked how James showed us how to use the press and mix colors and then let us try and gave us tips. Loved this workshop”

“I would recommend taking a class with him to everyone (and I do!) Especially those who are curious about graphic design or design in general. Those who want to try something new in the world of art and design or deepen their understanding about printmaking and also who wants to learn from a very knowledgeable and interesting guy! Thank you James!”
